including best director for Kathryn Bigelow,

the first woman ever to earn Hollywood’s top prize for filmmakers.

First-time winners took all four acting prizes Sunday: Sandra Bullock as best actress for “The Blind Side”; Jeff Bridges as best actor for “Crazy Heart”; Mo’Nique as supporting actress for “Precious”; and Austria’s Christoph Waltz as supporting actor for “Inglourious Basterds.”

Bigelow is the first woman in the 82-year history of the Oscars to earn Hollywood’s top prize for filmmakers.

“There’s no other way to describe it. It’s the moment of a lifetime,” Bigelow said. “It’s so extraordinary to be in the company of my fellow nominees, such powerful filmmakers, who have inspired me and I have admired, some of them for decades.”

Among those Bigelow and “The Hurt Locker” beat are ex-husband James Cameron and his sci-fi spectacle “Avatar.” Bigelow and Cameron were married from 1989-91.

Cameron was seated right behind Bigelow at the Oscars and joined a standing ovation for her, clapping vigorously and saying, “Yes, yes” after she won.

The Oscar marks a career peak for Bridges, a beloved Hollywood veteran who had been nominated four times in the previous 38 years without winning. Bridges, who played a boozy country singer trying to clean up his act, held his Oscar aloft and thanked his late parents, actor Lloyd Bridges and poet Dorothy Bridges.

Bullock, an industry darling who had never before been nominated, won for her role as a real-life wealthy woman who takes in homeless future football star Michael Oher, who was living on the streets as a teen.

The award wraps up a wild year for Bullock, who had box-office smashes with “Blind Side” and “The Proposal” and a flop with “All About Steve,” which earned her the worst-actress trophy at the Razzies the night before the Oscars.

The supporting-acting winners capped remarkable years, Mo’Nique startling fans with dramatic depths previously unsuspected in the actress known for lowbrow comedy.

“I would like to thank the academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics,” said Mo’Nique, who plays the heartless, abusive mother of an illiterate teen in the Harlem drama “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”

Mo’Nique added her gratitude to the first black actress to win an Oscar, Hattie McDaniel, the 1939 supporting-actress winner for “Gone With the Wind.” - Source: AP

Jamaica To Open Music Museum Featuring Rare Pieces From Bob Marley | TuffChin.Com

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Canoe.ca: KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaica plans to open a music museum next year that officials say will feature rare pieces from the island's music history, such as the sole album that the late reggae star Bob Marley produced before he gained international fame.

Artifacts will include a cassette tape in which another reggae great, Peter Tosh, jams a blues song with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, museum curator Herbie Miller said Sunday.

The tape was recorded in June 1977 in New York City, said Miller, who was Tosh's former manager.

It will be placed alongside the album "Escape from Babylon" by American singer Martha Velez that Marley produced in 1976.

The museum is requesting donations to help preserve Jamaica's vibrant music history. The island's music preservation took a major hit two years ago when officials discovered that a massive collection of 1970s music, including original recordings by Marley and Tosh, disappeared from the archives of the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corp.

The collection has not been found.

Miller said a date has not been set for the opening of the Jamaica Music Museum in Kingston. It will be operated by the government through the Institute of Jamaica, which oversees cultural affairs.

Lil Wayne Begins Prison Sentence (Monday)Today | TuffChin.Com

Dental surgery, a courthouse fire and scheduling issues should have no chance in interfering with Lil Wayne starting his one-year prison sentence later today.

The rapper was set to be sentenced last month, but Wayne's attorney requested a delay so the rapper could undergo eight root canals. Then, just hours before he was set to head to Rikers Island the second time, a fire broke out at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building delaying his departure.

Wayne is now set to appear before his judge on Monday (March 8) afternoon and plead guilty to attempted gun possession. He's then expected to turn himself in immediately to begin his prison term.

As the true workaholic he is, Weezy has been spending these past lucky weeks completing a number of music videos to keep fans happy while he's away; this includes shooting nine music videos in one weekend.

Urban Spin will keep you updated on Wayne's sentencing...although we can assume this time he's heading to prison for real.
